I don't even care about Katherine Heigl
But man she takes a lot of shit-kicking in the press, especially blogland. She doesn't offend me in any way -- generic blondes have that effect on me -- and I think she has done well to elevate herself in a cast that's almost uniformly more talented than her, and I also think she is not the Second Coming of Julia Roberts but at least someone other than fucking Cameron Diaz is trying, but this brouhaha over her Emmy statement is ridonk.
To be fair, she could've said something nicer than, "I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization I withdrew my name from contention" which is a clear shot at the writers/Shonda Rhimes herself, which some are interpreting as a move to get booted from Grey's Anatomy altogether, which isn't such a bad idea (though after 18 months away, I've come back around on it).
No recent hit has been plagued by so much publicized in-fighting and general bitchfesting -- you never hear this shit coming off the sets of Lost or Heroes, similarly huge and well-watched ensembles with unexpected breakout stars of their own -- and I have a feeling it is stressful and shitty to work there. And Ellen Pompeo must want to go on a killing spree because the damn thing was built around her and she's in the dregs popularity- and career-wise. (For the record, I like her. I also liked Ally McBeal.)
At any rate, Heigl is taking a lot of shit -- as she did months after Knocked Up's skillion-dollar success, when she said she felt the movie was sexist, which it TOTES WAS not to mention SENSELESS, SHRILL and TOO LONG but Judd Apatow is his own entry, if not his own series -- for simply answering a reporter's question. The LA Times saw she wasn't on the Emmy shortlist (she won last year), asked her why and she responded. A bit dickishly, yes, but people are reacting like she just released this statement apropos of nothing and how dare she be so arrogant?
I don't know, I just feel like there are so many other worthy people to spit battery acid on, starting with Team Sanctimonious Douchebag (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) various socialities, Rumer Willis, Perez Hilton and Tom Cruise, to gather a random sampling. All of them are more useless and offensive than an actress who just wants to succeed and says what she thinks while she's doing it.

i have little interest in Heigel myself - but i do know one of the things causing a stir is that the production bent over backwards to give her time off to do movies etc - and then had to write around her limited availability and now they feel a bit kicked in the teeth.
so - I think she's being a bit pretentious (protecting the integrity of the academy?? come on now) and kinda ungrateful.
as for Knocked Up - it was just another ball and chain movie. so i was glad when she spoke up about that.
still - it remains to be seen how all this will affect her "it girl" status.
Anyway.
And I didn't want to be a slave to Blogger anymore.
